If you are looking to learn more about “What Is A Heinz Flag Bet?” then you have found the right page, as we’ll explain this advanced bet in thorough detail.

I like to think of the Heinz Flag bet as a Heinz bet on steroids, as it combines a total of 87 bets.

57 of those are the same bets you find in a standard Heinz (15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds 6 five-folds, and 1 sixfold) + 15 single stakes about bets which when added brings the total to 87 bets.

It is important to note that a single stakes about bet has two separate combinations (So 15 x 2 = 30 bets)

On this page we’ll answer the questions:

  • How much does a Heinz Flag bet cost?
  • How many combinations does a Heinz Flag Bet have?
  • How does a Heinz Flag bet work?

We’ll explain and show you how many selections the bet has and how all the different 87 combinations work for this bet.

All of this info will be explained in simple terms with tables and screenshots to help guide you along the way. View our full list of bet types.

HOW MUCH DOES A £0.20p HEINZ FLAG COST?

Depending on your betting style and how much you budget will decide how much a Heinz Flag will cost. You can do these bets for smaller or larger stakes depending on your budget. Don’t forget that you should only bet amounts you can comfortably afford to lose.

Check out the table below, which shows you how much it costs for a twenty-pence Heinz Flag.

The Heinz Flag is a very unique and advanced bet as it contains six selections but is not like a normal combination bet.

This is a great bet for advanced punters. It has six selections and combines doubles, trebles, fourfold accumulators, fivefold accumulators, and a single sixfold accumulator, as well as thirty single stakes about bets.

So you have 87 separate bets that are within a Heinz Flag bet, and the great thing is that you only need one selection to be successful to get a return on your initial outlay.

HOW MANY COMBINATIONS DOES A Heinz FlaG HAVE?

In the table below you can see how many combinations in total the Heinz Flag. has.

BET TYPENO OF COMBINATIONS
Single Stakes About15 (each SSA has two combinations making 30 bets)
Doubles15
Trebles20
Fourfolds15
Fivefolds6
Sixfolds1
Sevenfolds0
Eightfolds0
Ninefolds0
Tenfolds0

Understanding the different combinations is important with any type of bet, but even more so with the Heinz Flag bet.

This is an advanced betting strategy but can be used for win and each way bets

Firstly you will want to select your horses, so let’s look at five mythical selections, and for this example, we’ll use a £1.00p win stake, so your total outlay is £46.

  • Selection A – 4/1
  • Selection B – 4/1
  • Selection C – 5/1
  • Selection D – 5/1
  • Selection E – 6/1
  • Selection F – 6/1

Off course, we want to win if possible, but also eliminate as much risk as possible. The table below shows how all of the different eighty-seven bets work with selections A, B, C, D, E, & F.

And of course, with a Heinz Flag., you only need one horse to win (in a win Super Heinz Flag)

WHAT ARE SINGLE STAKES ABOUT BETS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

In relation to the Heinz Flag Bet, we want to show you all of the “Single Stakes About” combinations in a Heinz Flag, as we realise this needs to be explained fully.

Remember, we have 15 Single Stakes About options which give us 30 of our 87 total bets.

Below you will find an explanation and calculation of all of the single stakes about bets using our example odds of 4/1, 4/1, 5/1, 5/1, 6/1, and 6/1.

Bet 1:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection B at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection B.
  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Heinz Flag bet of £9.

Bet 2:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection B at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Heinz Flag bet of £9.

Bet 3:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.

  • So if selection C wins then we have a return of £6.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Heinz Flag bet of £10.

Bet 4:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection C at 5/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Heinz Flag bet of £10.

Bet 5:

Bet 8:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection E at 6/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU WIN WITH A HEINZ FLAG BET?

So how many winners do we need to break even or make a profit with the Heinz Flag bet if we were using stakes of £1.00?

Let’s look at a couple of scenarios. Don’t forget, you only need one winner to get a return with this bet, but of course, one winner is not going to be enough to turn a profit.

Scenario 1

So let’s presume our two shortest-priced selections have won at 4/1 and 4/1.

This would give us a double plus two single stakes about single bets.

Double

The double would net us a return of £25.00

Single Stakes About A&B

Part 1: Bet on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection B at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection 2.
  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £9.

Single Stakes About B&A

Part 1: Bet on selection B at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £9.

This means that with scenario 1, we would have made a return of £43, so a loss of £44 on our original outlay of £87

Scenario 2

So let’s presume our two longest-priced selections have won at 6/1 and 6/1.

This would give us a double plus two single stakes about single bets.

Double

The double would net us a return of £49.00

Single Stakes About F&G

Part 1: Bet on selection F at 6/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection G at 6/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection F wins then we have a return of £7.
  • We keep £6 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection G.
  • So if selection G wins then we have a return of £7.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £13.

Single Stakes About G&F

Part 1: Bet on selection G at 6/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection F at 6/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection G wins then we have a return of £7.
  • We keep £6 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection F.
  • So if selection F wins then we have a return of £7.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £13.

This means that with scenario 2, we would have made a total return of £75, so a loss of £12 on our original outlay of £87.

Looking at those scenarios above, it is clear we are going to need at least three winners in this bet to make a profit, or alternatively, we need one of the two winners to be a bigger price or larger odds

WHAT IF ALL SIX OF OUR HEINZ FLAG BET SELECTIONS WIN?

If you are wondering how much the return would be if we had all six horses win in this example, then the total return would be £113,189 for an outlay of £87.

In our example, we used £1 as our stake, but you can also place this bet for smaller or larger stakes.

You will need to check with your online bookmaker or local high street bookmaker, as this is not a common bet nowadays, and some bookmakers may not accept this bet. It is certainly a bet that may not be possible to place online.

CONCLUSION

I must say, I had a lot of fun researching Flag bets, and as well as the Heinz Flag, you also have other combination flag bets like the Super Heinz Flag with 7 selections or the Goliath Flag bet with 8 selections.
