If you are looking to learn “What Is a Goliath Flag Bet?” then the information on this page will help you understand the bet clearly.

I like to think of the Goliath Flag bet as a Goliath bet on steroids, as it combines a total of 303 bets.

247 of those are the same bets you find in a standard Goliath (28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds 8 seven-folds and 1 eightfold) + 28 single stakes about bets which when added brings the total to 303 bets.

It is important to note that a single stakes about bet has two separate combinations (So 28 x 2 = 56 bets)

On this page we’ll answer the questions:

  • How much does a Goliath Flag bet cost?
  • How many combinations does a Goliath Flag Bet have?
  • How does a Goliath Flag bet work?

We’ll explain and show you how many selections the bet has and how all the different 303 combinations work for the Goliath Flag bet. View our full list of different bet types.

We’ll make this easy to understand with tables and screenshots to help guide you along the way.

HOW MUCH DOES A £0.20p GOLIATH FLAG COST?

Depending on your betting style and how much you budget will decide how much a Goliath Flag will cost. You can do these bets for small or large stakes depending on your budget. Don’t forget that you should only bet amounts you can comfortably afford to lose.

Check out the table below, which shows you how much it costs for a twenty-pence Goliath Flag bet, as well as the costs if you were using other stakes.

GOLIATH FLAG BET STAKETOTAL COST
£0.10p Win£30.30
£0.10p Each Way£60.60
£0.20p Win£60.60
£0.20p Each Way£121.20
£0.25p Win£75.75
£0.25p Each Way£151.50
£0.50p Win£151.50
£0.50p Each Way£303.00
£1.00p Win£303.00
£1.00 Each Way£606.00
£5.00p Win£1515.00
£5.00 Each Way£3030.00

The Goliath Flag is a very unique and advanced bet as it contains eight selections but is not like a normal combination bet.

This is a great bet for advanced punters. It has 8 selections and combines doubles, trebles, fourfold accumulators, fivefold accumulators, six-fold accumulators, seven-fold accumulators and a single eightfold accumulator as well as twenty-eight single stakes about bets.

So you have 303 separate bets that are within our Goliath Flag bet, and the great thing is that you only need one selection to be successful to get a return on your initial outlay.

HOW MANY COMBINATIONS DOES A Goliath Flag HAVE?

In the table below you can see how many combinations in total the Goliath Flag has.

BET TYPENO OF COMBINATIONS
Single Stakes About28 (each SSA has two combinations making 56 bets)
Doubles28
Trebles56
Fourfolds70
Fivefolds56
Sixfolds28
Sevenfolds8
Eightfolds1
Ninefolds0
Tenfolds0

Understanding the different combinations is important with any type of bet, but even more so with the Goliath Flag bet.

This is an advanced betting strategy but can be used for win and each way bets

First up, you will want to select your horses, so let’s look at eight mythical selections, and for this example, we’ll use a £0.10p each way stake, so your total outlay is £60.60.

  • Selection A – 4/1
  • Selection B – 4/1
  • Selection C – 5/1
  • Selection D – 5/1
  • Selection E – 6/1
  • Selection F – 6/1
  • Selection G – 7/1
  • Selection H – 7/1

Of course, we want to win if possible, but also eliminate as much risk as possible. The table below shows how all of the different 303 bets work with selections A, B, C, D, E, F, G & H.

And of course, with a Goliath Flag, you only need one horse to be placed (in an Each Way Goliath Flag) to see a return.

WHAT ARE SINGLE STAKES ABOUT BETS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

In relation to the Goliath Flag Bet, we want to show you all of the “Single Stakes About” combinations in the Goliath Flag, as we realise this needs to be explained fully.

Remember, we have 28 Single Stakes About options which gives us 56 of our 303 total bets.

Below you will find an explanation and calculation of all of the single stakes about bets using our example odds of 4/1, 4/1, 5/1, 5/1, 6/1, 6/1, 7/1 and 7/1.

To make it easier to understand, we have used £1 stakes below to explain how the bets work.

Bet 1:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection B at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection B.
  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £9.

Bet 2:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection B at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £9.

Bet 3:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection C at 5/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection C.
  • So if selection C wins then we have a return of £6.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £10.

Bet 4:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection C at 5/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection C wins then we have a return of £6.
  • We keep £5 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £10.

Bet 5:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection D at 5/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection D.
  • So if selection D wins then we have a return of £6.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £10.

Bet 6:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection D at 5/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection D wins then we have a return of £6.
  • We keep £5 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £10.

Bet 7:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection E at 6/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £5.
  • We keep £4 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection E.
  • So if selection E wins then we have a return of £7.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the Goliath Flag bet of £11.

Bet 8:
Part 1: Bet £1 on selection E at 6/1.
Part 2: Bet £1 on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection E wins then we have a return of £7.
  • We keep £6 as profit and place the remaining £1 on selection A.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU WIN WITH A GOLIATH FLAG BET?

So how many winners do we need to break even or make a profit with the Goliath Flag bet if we were using stakes of £0.10?

Let’s look at a few scenarios. Don’t forget, you only need one winner to get a return with the Goliath Flag bet, but of course, one winner is not going to be enough to get you a profit.

Scenario 1

So let’s presume our two shortest-priced selections have won at 4/1 and 4/1.

This would give us a double plus two single stakes about single bets.

Double

The double would net us a return of £2.50

Single Stakes About A&B

Part 1: Bet on selection A at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection B at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £0.50.
  • We keep £0.40 as profit and place the remaining £0.10 on selection B.
  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £0.50.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £0.90.

Single Stakes About B&A

Part 1: Bet on selection B at 4/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection A at 4/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection B wins then we have a return of £0.50.
  • We keep £0.40 as profit and place the remaining £0.10 on selection A.
  • So if selection A wins then we have a return of £0.50.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £0.90.

This means that with scenario 1, we would have made a return of £4.30, so a loss of £56.30 on our original outlay of £60.60

Scenario 2

So let’s presume our two longest-priced selections have won at 7/1 and 7/1.

This would give us a double plus two single stakes about single bets.

Double

The double would net us a return of £6.40

Single Stakes About G&H

Part 1: Bet on selection G at 7/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection H at 7/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection G wins then we have a return of £0.80.
  • We keep £0.70 as profit and place the remaining £0.10 on selection H.
  • So if selection H wins then we have a return of £0.80.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £1.50.

Single Stakes About H&G

Part 1: Bet on selection H at 7/1.
Part 2: Bet on selection G at 7/1 if sufficient funds are remaining from part 1.

  • So if selection H wins then we have a return of £0.80.
  • We keep £0.70 as profit and place the remaining £0.10 on selection G.
  • So if selection G wins then we have a return of £0.80.
  • This gives us a total profit on this portion of the bet of £1.50.

This means that with scenario 2, we would have made a total return of £9.40, so a loss of £51.20 on our original outlay of £60.60.

Looking at those scenarios above, it is clear we are going to need at least three winners in this bet to make a profit

AND WHAT IF ALL EIGHT OF OUR GOLIATH FLAG BET SELECTIONS WIN?

If you are wondering how much the return would be if we had all eight horses win in this example, then the total return would be £915,370.89p for an outlay of £60.60. (N.B. Most bookmakers will have a daily payout limit of £1,000,000)

In our example, we used £0.10 as our stake, but you can also place this bet for smaller or larger stakes.

You will need to check with your online bookmaker or local high street bookmaker, as this is not a common bet nowadays, and some bookmakers may not accept this bet. It is certainly a bet that may not be possible to place online.

I am a total sports fan, in particular horse racing, football and golf, and have been writing about these and other sports for a number of years. I have had the chance to attend many of the biggest horse racing events in my time and my sporting claim to fame has to be winning the inaugural RacingTV Tipstar contest back in 2014. When not watching or writing about sports and sports betting I like to take an interest in cryptocurrency, and last but not least spending time and playing with my two young grandchildren.
