  • How does a Heinz bet work?

We’ll explain and show you how many selections the bet has and how all the different 57 combinations work for this bet.

All of the info will be explained in simple terms with tables and screenshots to help guide you along the way.

How Much Does a £0.20P Heinz Bet Cost?

Depending on your betting style and how much you budget will decide how much a Heinz bet will cost. You can do these bets for smaller or larger stakes depending on your budget. Don’t forget that you should only bet amounts you can comfortably afford to lose.

Check out the table below, which shows you how much it costs for a twenty-pence Heinz. We have also included the total cost for smaller and larger stakes.

The Heinz is a great bet for both beginners and advanced punters. It has six selections and combines doubles, trebles, fourfolds, five-folds, and a single sixfold accumulator.

So you have 57 separate bets that are within a Heinz, and the great thing is that it gives you multiple chances to win. One of the reasons I like this bet is because most race meetings have six races so if you are going racing for the day, you can use the Heinz bet to give you an interest in every race on the card

Although it might seem a bit advanced for novices, it is in fact quite a simple bet to understand. See the table below.

How Many Combinations Does an Heinz Have?

In the table below you can see how many combinations in total the Heinz bet has.

Doubles15
Trebles20
Fourfolds15
Fivefolds6
Sixfolds1
Sevenfolds0
Eightfolds0
Ninefolds0
Tenfolds0

Understanding the different combination bet types is important, but with a Heinz, it is good to understand some of the strategies behind this bet.

As an example, if you are a novice punter, you might want to go for an each-way Heinz and focus on horses that are bigger prices. Whereas, if you are an advanced punter, then favourites and generally shorter prices (4/1 and under) would be the way to go.

EW Heinz bets are more of a fun bet for casual or novice bettors, as they give you an interest in every race at a meeting.

It is important to note that you will need at least two of your selections to be successful to get a return with a Heinz bet.

How Does a Heinz Bet Work?

Below you can see all of the Heinz Bet permutations, so you know exactly which horses are in each individual bet.

A Heinz has six selections and as you will have seen from the previous table, it consists of 15 Doubles, 20 Trebles, 15 four-folds, 6 five-folds and 1 sixfold.

First, you will want to select your horses, so let’s look at six mythical selections below which are priced between 4/1 and 8/1, and for this example, we’ll use a £0.20p each way stake, so your total outlay is £22.80.

So let’s say as an example our six horses are:

  • Selection A – 4/1
  • Selection B – 4/1
  • Selection C – 5/1
  • Selection D – 5/1
  • Selection E – 6/1
  • Selection F – 8/1

So our total stake is £22.80, and of course, we want to win if possible, but also eliminate as much risk as possible. So how many winners or places will we need to break even or make a profit?

Let’s take our four lowest-priced horses, and first let’s say they have all won. So it means we have two winners at 4/1 and two winners at 5/1.

This gives us 6 win doubles, 4 win trebles and a win fourfold accumulator which would return £360.59 for a profit of £337.79 on the money we laid out for our bet.

Let’s now take our four lowest-priced horses, and say they have all placed. So it means we have two places at 4/1 and two places at 5/1. In this example, our return would have been just £12.39 meaning a loss on the bet of £10.41.

And if you are wondering how much the return would be if all six horses had won or been placed then the total return for your each way Heinz with six winners would be £28,376.09, while six places would bring a return of £156.89 for your outlay of £22.80.
