As a sports betting platform, Unibet is far from a newcomer. In comparison to the likes of Ladbrokes or BetVictor it’s relatively young, but – in the fast-moving modern betting industry – this company being formed back in 1997 makes it a relative veteran. In 1999 the online platform was launched, and – if you fast forward to today – Unibet is one of the largest and most renowned sportsbooks all over the UK.

The primary reason for Unibet’s success is the spectacular selection of markets and the competitive odds. Unibet free bets, however, have definitely played a major role. These are a very popular type of sportsbook promotion, expertly delivered here.

In this article, you’ll learn everything you need to know about getting and using a Unibet free bet. We’ll tell you what deals provide them, highlight the main T&Cs you need to watch out for, and give you some top tips on making a profit.

Unibet How To Guides

What is a Unibet Free Bet?

Free bets are exactly what they sound like. They are digital tokens that let you place wagers on your preferred selections, without needing to use your real-money balance. You can generally use these virtual vouchers to bet and claim all the same real money winnings as you normally would. The only real difference is that – with free bets – your stakes won’t be returned with any winnings.

Free bets are extremely popular among British punters because they can increase your bankroll relatively easily. As you’re not spending anything from your real money funds, any and all winnings will be added to your main balance.

The only real drawback of these tokens. in general, is that you don’t come across them easily. Fortunately, though, there are actually a few ways to get your hands on some Unibet free bets. The welcome offer gives you a matched deposit bonus of up to £40, while the In-Play Free Bet Club will give you further tokens as you continue to wager on the platform.

Unibet Welcome Offer

Unibet offers up to £40 in money back on your first bet at the sportsbook, with this ‘bonus’ essentially being a free bet. With this deal, you also get a £10 casino bonus thrown in.

The offer works in the same way as any other money-back offer. If your first wager wins, you keep your winnings as normal. If it loses, Unibet will return the loss to you in the form of a free bet.

To begin with, you have to wager at least £1 on a sports event. Pleasingly, all markets are eligible here except for horse racing, trotting, virtual sports, and greyhound racing. For all the selections you do place, whether you make a singles or multiples bet, you must maintain odds of at least 1.40.

Crucially, this deal only applies to your very first bet with Unibet. If you win the bet, the promotion is complete and you walk away with your winnings. If not, you’ll get the stake back. In this case though, the maximum return you can get is £40, meaning that – in order to maximise the value here – there’s no real point in staking more than £40 on your wager.

Remember the accompanying £10 bonus for the casino section? You can actually opt into that after you’re done with the money-back sportsbook offer, and the £10 bonus will be credited to your bonus funds. Be aware, however, that this bonus has some hefty 50x wagering requirements, that you have to meet within 7 days.

Once you have exhausted your bonus bets then depositing into your Unibet account is easy. If you need help then check out our guide – How to deposit on Unibet.

Unibet Sign Up Offer – Key T&Cs

The Unibet new customer offer comes with a few critical terms and conditions attached. Naturally, we’d encourage you to read these in full before attempting to trigger the deal. As you do so though, these are the most important parts you should watch out for:

  • Must wager at least £1 to trigger the £40 Money Back offer
  • Minimum odds of 1.40 for qualifying singles bets
  • If a multiples bets is placed, each leg must maintain the minimum odds of 1.40 (2/5 in fractional format)
  • The received bonus money is subject to 3x wagering requirements before withdrawal
  • Wagering requirement must also be completed at 1.40 (2/5)
  • If a withdrawal is requested before the rollover is complete, the entire bonus will be confiscated
  • Horse racing, trotting, and greyhound racing are ineligible for this promotion
  • Unless the £40 Money Back offer is completely settled, the £10 casino offer cannot be claimed
  • The casino bonus is subject to a 50x wagering requirement and must be completed within 7 days
  • If the casino bonus is used for sports events, the wagering requirement will be 999x
  • Poker does not contribute to wagering for any promotions
  • Paysafecard, Neteller, and Skrill deposits are not eligible for the welcome offer

For the most part, we’d say these terms and conditions are fair. The only sticking point is the rollover requirement for the sports bonus. While this is common on less-heralded sportsbooks, most premium bookies – like Unibet – will simply give you the bonus once you’ve placed a qualifying wager, rather than making you place further wagers thereafter.

How to Claim the Unibet Welcome Offer

Now that you know what the offer is and what terms you need to comply with, it’s time to get into how exactly you claim it. This is crucial to understand, as – if you don’t adhere to the steps correctly – you might disqualify yourself entirely.

  • The first step is ensuring you have the means to access the website. You can either open your computer browser, your mobile browser, or download the iOS or Android app directly from the website.
  • Click on the “Register” button. The welcome offer we just covered will actually show up in the registration menu here, to remind you about the promotion.
  • Provide details such as your first name, last name, email address, date of birth, and gender in the first phase.
  • In the next phase, you have to enter your postcode so that Unibet can verify your location. You also need to provide your UK phone number at this step.
  • Agree to the site’s general terms and conditions, and complete the sign up process.
  • Once your account is up and running, you need to make your first deposit. For Unibet, the minimum deposit depends on which payment method you select. Also, remember that certain methods are incompatible with the welcome offer.
  • Make the minimum £1 wager at the specified odds.
  • If you win the bet, your winnings are awarded as normal.
  • If you lose the bet, you get up to a £40 bonus.
  • You will need to wager any bonus x 3 to satisfy all bonus conditions.
  • Before actually withdrawing any winnings, your identity will need to be verified. This will involve uploading digital images of two documents, such as your passport, driving license, or bills.

Other Unibet Free Bet Offers

As we’ve already seen, the welcome offer at Unibet can already give you a free bet of up to £40. Naturally though, that will only last for a short while after you claim it.

More important for your long-term needs are the ongoing promotions, and we’re pleased to say that – while Unibet doesn’t have the most spectacular range of free bet offers – there are still a couple of attractive deals in place.

Also keep an eye on this page for any Unibet Promo Codes

In-Play Free Bet Club

In-Play refers to live betting, where punters are allowed to make bets even after an event has started. It has gained a lot of traction in the last few years, and – with this bookie – you can actually claim Unibet free bets exclusively from placing in-play wagers.

With the In-Play Free Bet Club, you can receive a £10 free bet token when you wager on selected sports. This is a weekly promotion, with the timeframe running between Monday 00:01 and Sunday 23:59. This is also an opt-in promotion, meaning you have to manually claim it before you can claim any rewards, which can be done from the deal’s page on the website.

The selected sports for this offer are Football, Tennis, Basketball, Darts, and Cricket. After you opt-in, you have to place at least 5 bets on live events, at a minimum of £10 each. Basically, you have to spend at least £50 on in-play bets, with minimum odds of evens (2.0) for each bet. If any of the bets are multiples, the individual legs must also have a minimum of even odds (2.0).

The £50 you spend on these bets must be from your real money funds. Free bets, free cash, bets with boosted odds do not qualify for this particular promotion. As noted, your total expenditure will be calculated between Monday morning and Sunday night, and – after the promotion is over – your payouts will be given on Monday at 16:00 GMT.

£150 Refer a Friend

Refer a friend is generally an excellent promotion type, but bookies are usually reluctant to offer them. Not Unibet, though. By getting your friends to sign up with the brand, you can receive up to £150 in free bets.

The maximum number of successful referrals is three, and they each pay progressively higher. The first referral will get you £30, the 2nd one will come with a £50 reward, and the final referral has a £70 bonus. All of these are credited as free bets, although – annoyingly – they are subject to 1x wagering requirements. This means you have to use the money at least once for betting purposes before you can withdraw it.

Lastly, keep in mind that friends who don’t live in the UK, who already have a Unibet account, or who share an address/IP address with you are excluded from the promotion.

How to Make the Most of Your Unibet Bonus

Free bets, including the Unibet sign up bonus, can be an invaluable part of your experience on this sportsbook. Actually using them in the most effective and efficient way, however, requires some skill on your part.

Perhaps the most important trait of all, which you must maintain when using your free bets, is patience. Getting a free bet token always feels exciting, however long you’ve been gambling. You see a free £10 in your account, and your first instinct is to spend it straight away. It’s crucial that you overcome this urge, however. Instead you must bide your time, and wait for the right opportunity to come along.

The second part of the equation, of course, is finding that right opportunity. When you get these tokens, it can be tempting to treat them as a ‘free hit’, since it’s not costing you any real money to use one. This is a waste, pure and simple. Free bets still deliver you cash rewards when they’re used successfully, so you should place them as carefully as any other wager. Take the time to browse the lists of available markets, and find one that offers genuine value. Doing research – whether on social media, betting blogs, or looking at stats websites yourself – can also help you to identify great opportunities.

And don’t forget you can place your bets using the Unibet App

Final Thoughts

Operating under a license from none other than the UK Gambling Commission, and with an outstanding reputation, Unibet is a very safe and reliable environment for British punters. In the last 20 years of operations, Unibet has increasingly gained popularity, credibility, and trust from the bettors. Between the packed-out sportsbook and casino sections, and excellent mobile apps, it’s a highly-modern and desirable destination for anyone interested in iGaming.

Of course, promotions play a major role in retaining players as well as bringing in new bettors. In this case, the Unibet welcome bonus, In-Play Free Bet Club, and Refer a Friend deal will all give you free bets. While the rollover requirements for these deals are irritating, each of them still offers fair value, and – overall – give you plenty of ways in which to spare your cash balance.
