Make sure to check out all of our selections and pointetrs below.
We are often asked which bookmakers have the best Cheltenham offers? . From our experience the top four bookmakers, the ones who offers the best prices, place terms and special offers are Bet365, Betfred, Betfair and William Hill.
Day 1 – Champion’s Day – Tuesday 15th March 2022
Ready yourself for the “Cheltenham Roar”, as punters go wild at the start of the opening race, The Supreme Novice’s Hurdle at 1.30PM.
As per every day during the week, racing begins at 1.30pm and the Supreme Novice Hurdle opens proceedings on the first day, with the two-mile novice chasers then competing in the Arkle trophy.
Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
The 2022 Cheltenham Festival begins with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle staged over about two miles with the race usually attracting a quality entry. Both Douvan and Altior have won this contest in previous seasons ahead of embarking on chasing careers.
This year sees a strong Irish contingent yet again, but the home team also have a strong hand with Nicky Henderson fielding two runners including the unbeaten Jonbon owned by JP McManus and Constitution Hill. Both have had very impressive novice campaigns and face the acid test in the festival opener.
Irish raiders have claimed victory in the past two seasons and there will be another strong representation from the Emerald Isle for this year’s renewal.
Willie Mullins all-powerful yard has three entrants with Dysart Dynamo heading the team from Closutton, whilst Gordon Elliot fields the improving Mighty Potter who was beaten by the Mullins trained Statuaire in the Grade 1 Royal Bond novices hurdle but has since come out and won again since.
Only 9 runners look set to go to post but it shows how strong the race is with the UK champion trainer Paul Nicholl’s sole representative Silent Revolution a 66/1 chance.
Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)
Every year Cheltenham hosts the Prestbury Cup which is the annual battle between Irish and English trainers to see who comes out top of the pile.
Last year saw the Irish dominate with a 23 – 5 mauling and lots has been asked about where the British winners will come from?
Look no further than The Sporting Life Arkle and the Alan King trained Edwardsone. A very decent hurdler last year but extremely progressive as a chaser this season. He was bought down on his first run over the bigger obstacles but has now won four on the bounce and is a worthy favourite to notch a day one winner for the home team.
It won’t be easy with Willie Mullins saddling three here and Blue Lord and Saint Sam will give the favourite plenty to think about. Throw in the mix the 150 rated Riviere D’etel from the Gordon Elliot yard who was runner up to Blue Lord last time, and this years Arkle has a very open look.
Ultima Handicap Chase (Grade 3)
The first handicap of the week and we see the admirable Frodon trying to defy top weight for trainer Paul Nicholl’s and regular pilot Bryony Frost. This season we seem to have seen a decline in Frodon’s form, but, you write this one off at your peril. Fros will of course try to make every yard and Frodon’s assured jumping will put many of these to the sword.
The Kim Bailey novice Does He Know has already shown excellent form around Cheltenham and a fast pace will surely suit his improving stayer, whilst last years winner Vintage Clouds looks as though he has been campaigned with this race in mind having run poorly early in the season before a fine second last time giving lumps of weight to his rivals.
All in all an incredibly competitive handicap and one where punters should be seeking out the extra place value offered by a number of the leading bookmakers.
Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1)
The highlight of Day 1 is the Champion Hurdle and we see last year’s heroine Honeysuckle going for her second Champion Hurdle crown and amazingly her fifteenth straight career victory, an amazing feat in modern-day national hunt racing. Jockey Rachael Blackmore won the leading jockey at last year’s festival but that was in Covid times when no fans were in attendance. one can only imagine what a difference it will be with 60,000 raving racing fans in attendance this year.
Looking at possible challengers to the favourite then Appreciate It from the Willie Mullins yard will be high on the list but it will be a big ask for last year’s Supreme Novices Hurdle winner to come here the first time out giving the Henry De Bromhead trained mare 7lbs.
Let’s also not forget that we have the 2020 winner here Epatante from the Nicky Henderson yard who is unbeaten in two runs this season and will surely appreciate the forecast ground conditions.
Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle (Registered As The David Nicholson Mares’ Hurdle) (Grade 1)
Willie Mullins has won the race nine times including six with the amazing Quevega. This year sees 12 runners likely to go to post and Mullins once again has a strong hand with three runners, but it is compatriot Henry De Bromhead who has the favourite in Tellmesomethinggirl again ridden by Blackmore and in the same ownership as Honeysuckle. So it could be a great day for Kenny Alexander and the De Bromhead family.
From a betting perspective though, this is one of the most competitive races of the day and a case can be made for a few of these.
Stormy Island from the Mullins team won the Relkeel hurdle here at Cheltenham over course and distance and will surely put up a bold show, whilst at bigger prices we could see another raider from across the Irish Sea, Mrs Milner who was a winner at last years festival run well, and she has plenty of stamina and looks interesting EW value at around the 10/1 mark at the time of writing.
For the home team, the Lucy Wadham trained Martello Sky is improving all the time with three wins from four this season. A rating of 144 says she has it all to do, but at around the 14/1 mark she is an improving mare and was staying on late last year after being outpaced in the mares novices hurdle over shorter.
Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (Registered As The Fred Winter) (Grade 3)
Always a fiercely contested handicap with what looks to be a maximum field taking part of 22 runners.
We have to start with the favourite Gaelic Warrior from the Willie Mullins yard who is as short as 9/4 with most firms. Trainer Mullins and former stable jockey Ruby Walsh have not hidden the fact that they feel the horse is extremely well handicapped. However, the horse is yet to jump a hurdle in public in Ireland or England after coming from France. It is a difficult call for punters. On the one hand, we could see one of the easiest winners of the week, but on the other hand will the horse have a bit of a culture shock on the undulations of Cheltenham facing a huge field on only his fourth career start?
Outside the market leader, HMS Seahorse is another from Ireland with strong claims whilst the unbeaten Petite Tonnerre and top weight from Jonjo O’Neill’s yard will be just two that should provide stiff opposition to the favourite.
Gordon Elliot has won two of the last four runnings and fields a strong team of five this year, with maybe Ebasari being the strongest of the quintet with Davy Russell booked.
Ukraine Appeal National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Novices’ Chase (Grade 2)
The last race on Day 1 is the National Hunt Chase and has rightly been named to aid the appeal for support in Ukraine which is a marvellous idea from Cheltenham and the Jockey Club.
In terms of the race itself, it is a disappointing turnout with just 7 runners set to face the judge and it looks sure to head the way of the Irish who have the first and second favourites for the race.
Rebecca Curtis flies the flag for Britain fielding two runners and it’s her Pat’s Fancy that could provide the stiffest opposition to the Irish contingent. This thorough stayer will appreciate the extra distance and only gave best to the top class Bravemansgame last time and could be the EW value.
Conclusion
As always a cracking day’s racing and for punters, make sure to check out all of the best Cheltenham sign up offers from all of the bookmakers and make sure that you hunt out the best place terms if you are betting in the big field handicaps, with many bookmakers going 7 places.
Day 2 – Ladies Day – Wednesday 16th March 2022
The two-mile Queen Mother Champion Chase dominates the second day of the festival.
This two-mile chasing championship has been dominated by Nicky Henderson over the last few years with the likes of Altior and Sprinter Sacre and he once again has the favourite in Shishkin who himself is already a festival winner when winning last year’s Arkle at Cheltenham, He will attempt to emulate his illustrious stablemates and see off the very strong challenge from Energumene and Chacun Por Soi from the Closutton maestro Willie Mullins.
This promises to maybe be the race of the festival with Shishkin 177, Energumene 175 and Chacun Por Soi 176 going head to head.
Shishkin beat Energumene when they met recently but there was only a length in it at the line and it is sure to be close again. Chacun Por Soi won very impressively last time but the jury is still out if he can produce his best when travelling outside of his home base in Ireland.
One thing is for sure, if they all bring their A-game, we could see all three jumping the last together and one of the battles of the decade.
Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (Registered As The Baring Bingham)
Day 2 kicks off with the second novices event for hurdlers where the focus turns from speed to stamina over this 2 miles and 5 furlongs trip.
The Cheveley Park owned Sir Gerhard, a former winner of the Cheltenham bumper was also entered in the Supreme on Day 1 but they have decided this is the target. The horse won very impressively last time, albeit making mistakes in the jumping department. Will he be able to get away with doing that in this?
At the time of writing Mullins also had 9 of the other 17 runners initially declared so this will be no easy ride for the favourite.
Add into the mix Stage Star for Paul Nicholls who is unbeaten in three runs this season and also the unbeaten Journey With Me from the Henry De Bromhead yard and this looks to be one of the most competitive renewals of the Ballymore in recent years.
Although only rated 128, the Colin Tizzard Scarface is already proving a better hurdler than he was a bumper horse and could surprise a few people at massive odds.
Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (Registered As The Broadway Novices’ Chase)
This is one of the best renewals we have seen since this novice chasing event was introduced to the festival.
With 11 runners in the final declarations, we could well see this one going the way of the home trainers who hold a strong hand.
Bravemansgame from the Paul Nicholls yard sets a very high standard including when beating Pat’s Fancy (runs in the National Hunt Chase on Tuesday). Already a good hurdler, this son of Brave Mansonnien was always going to a better chaser and is unbeaten in four starts over fences and has won all of these in convincing fashion. Trainer Nicholls has even compared him to his great chaser Denman (high praise indeed) and this one could turn into a future Gold Cup contender.
Bravemansgame will not have it all his own way with the Venetia Williams trained L’Homme Presse also arriving here with a perfect 4-4 record this season and it’s likely these two will fight out the finish.
Looking for an outsider or one at bigger prices then Capodanno has run well this season against some of the best novices. He unseated last time but his form stacks up well here and at around the 10/1 mark, could be interesting for each-way players.
Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
One of the biggest betting races of the week and usually a race targetted by the Irish trainers with a well handicapped or unexposed type. Plenty in this big field that fit the bill but none more so than The Shunter who has won on his last two starts and runs here off a mark of 148 and now reverts to hurdles after spending most of the season running over the larger obstacles.
Owner JP McManus has three others here and he is well known to like a tilt at the ring in these big field handicaps and his Camprond rained by Phillip Hobbs was very unlucky here last time in The Greatwood Hurdle after stumbling badly three hurdles from home. That run can be marked up and he gets in here off the same handicap mark of 140 and top jockey Aiden Coleman takes the ride.
At bigger prices then Dans Le Vent looks very interesting. He won the Betfair Stayers Hurdle at Haydock back in November like a well-handicapped horse and has since gone up 7lbs in the ratings. He was not disgraced when outclassed next time but has since put up two fantastic efforts and the trip of 2 miles and 5 furlongs with the likely strong pace looks ideal. He looks well overpriced at around the 28/1 mark.
Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (Grade 1)
We have already touched on this race but this really could be the race of the festival with only 2lbs separating Shishkin, Chacun Por Soi and Energumene. The first and third mentioned put up a cracker in the Clarence House at Ascot recently and round two of this match in the two-mile championship division promises to be an absolute belter.
It is difficult to see one of the above three not winning but we do have the two last year’s champions (Politologue 2020 and Put The Kettle On 2021) in the field so this is a real high-quality renewal.
Throw in Envoi Allen and the improving Funambule Sivola and we have the recipe for a classic.
Glenfarclas Chase (Cross Country Chase) (GBB Race)
Race 5 on Day 2 will be high on everybody’s “I was there” list.
Here we see the little horse with the mighty heart….Tiger Roll. All eyes will be on the Gigginstown runner and there will not be a dry one in the house if this legend of a horse can win his sixth race at the Cheltenham Festival. Of course, everybody in racing knows the horse for winning two Grand Nationals but here we are in 2022 and his roll of honour stands out like a beacon.
This looks like being his swansong, but just for the record here is his Cheltenham Festival role of honour.
- 2014 Triumph Hurdle
- 2017 National Hunt Chase
- 2018 Glenfarclas Cross Country
- 2019 Glenfarclas Cross Country
- 2021 Glenfarclas Cross Country
- 2022 Glenfarclas Cross Country (Runner-up)
So are there any potential challengers to challenge the reigning champion?
Trainer Enda Bolger has an amazing record in these cross country events and his Prengarde came from France with a huge reputation. He has only had one run for the master trainer which was over hurdles when well beaten. However, expect a much better showing and he will be a tough opponent to the favourite Tiger Roll.
At bigger prices we could see the likes of Delta Work go well first time over these obstacles and Diesel D’Allier is another at a big price who could go well for each-way backers.
Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase (Grade 3)
A race named after the late father of current trainer Nicky and one that the Seven Barrows handler is always keen to try and win. However, this year sees no entries for the yard but nonetheless a great opportunity for the home trainers to put one on the board in the Prestbury Cup.
Always a helter-skelter race and run at a breakneck pace from start to finish and you need a horse that travels, jumps and has the stamina to last out the searching gallop.
Therefore, horses that have won round Cheltenham and have solid form over two and a half miles will more often than not do well. Horses that fit the bill this year include:
- Sky Pirate
- Elixir De Nutz
- Hasankey
- Destined To Shine
Last year’s winner Sky Pirate is back for more and although running off top weight, this is a drop in class compared to the races he has been running in this season and he holds a solid each-way chance. At bigger prices the improving Hasankey has won his last three races and is only 5lbs higher.
Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Standard Open NH Flat Race) (Grade 1)
The concluding race on Day 2 is the Champion Bumper and in the last 5 years has been won three times by Willie Mullins and twice by Gordon Elliot, so it comes as no surprise that the top two in the betting are from these powerful yards.
Mullins saddles the favourite Facile Vega whilst Elliot has the highly regarded American Mike.
Is this a two-horse race or is there an unexposed type waiting in the wings to dent the reputations of the big two? Patrick Mullins (son of Willie) came out last week and said that he felt there is very little between Facile Vega and another of the stables entries Redemption Day, so that should be heeded.
If we look even further down the list then the eye is drawn to the Milton Harris trained filly Rosie Redrum. Harris’s Mullenbeg won the bumper on Festival trials day but Harris was quick to point out that Rosy Redrum was possibly the better of the two.
She gets a 17lb weight for age and sex allowance which puts her right in the mix, and there must be more to come after just two starts.
She looks great EW value at around the 25/1 mark.
Conclusion
As always a cracking day’s racing and for punters, make sure to check out all of the best Cheltenham sign up offers from all of the bookmakers and make sure that you hunt out the best place terms if you are betting in the big field handicaps, with many bookmakers going 7 places.
Day 3 – St Patrick’s Day – Thursday 17th March 2022
The Ryanair Chase and Stayers Hurdle are the key prominent races on the third day with Allaho and Flooring Porter both trying to retain their crowns.
Turners Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (Registered As The Golden Miller)
The Turners Novice Chase sees two of the stars of the novice chasing game go head to head with Bob Olinger and Galopin Des Champs facing off in what looks like a match. These two have scared off most of the opposition with a field of four set to go to post.
This will be one of the most minor fields ever to be assembled for a Cheltenham Festival race.
Both horses are two from two over fences with the latter winning well at the recent Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown. Hopefully, both will get a clear round and we should have a race to savour.
The other two El Barra and Bussleton look way outclassed and should only be running for place money
Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
The Pertemps is one of the most competitive races of the week run over just short of three miles. This years renewal has the 2020 winner Sire Du Berlais back for another crack and Gordon Elliot’s runner is only 4lbs higher this time around and looks to have been primed for a repeat effort.
Many here with chances and Elliot also has the bottom weight Dunboyne who can be viewed as unfortunate on his last two runs and looks sure to appreciate this stamina test.
The 13 year old Kansas City Chief comes here after winning just 5 days ago and although in the veteran stage will likely make a bold bid from the front at a track where he has an excellent record.
Nicky Henderson’s horses have already been running well this week and the veteran Mill Green ran a stormer to finish second last time and has run really well at the last two festivals, will appreciate this stiffer test of stamina and looks a nice EW price at 33/1 with many bookies paying 7 or 8 places.
Ryanair Chase (Registered As The Festival Trophy) (Grade 1)
Only 9 runners go to post and last year’s winner Allaho comes here unbeaten this season and should prove very tough to beat. The possible fly in the ointment could be the Gordon Elliot trained Conflated who was touted as a possible Gold Cup runner but comes here to try and win the race for owner and sponsor Michael O’Leary whose Tiger Roll bowed out yesterday with a cracking effort to finish second in the Cross Country.
Looking for other possible alternatives to the favourite and the eye has to be drawn to the Dan Skelton trained Shan Blue who was a faller on seasonal debut when looking likely to win easily. This has clearly been the target since, so a watch on the market will provide more clues. At bigger prices Fanion Destruval for Venetia Williams could surprise a few after running on late last time behind Fakir D’Oudairies.
Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
A cracking renewal and we have last years winner Flooring Porter back to defend his crown as well as past winner Paisley Park who performed miracles to win last time after spinning around and losing ground at the start. He still got back into the race and stormed up the hill to bring back memories of his win in this event back in 2019.
Paisley Park beat the Henderson trained Champ last time and the jury is still out on this quirky character.
The Willie Mullins trained Klassical Dream is a past festival winner and has a verdict over Flooring Porter at the Dublin Racing Festival back in February, but he was not in the same form last time when disappointing as a 1/3 favourite.
Thyme Hill and Royal Kahala are others with the form to get involved but it could well be Gavin Cromwell’s day again with Flooring Porter.
Craft Irish Whiskey Co. Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3)
One of the most competitive handicaps of the week and following Wednesday’s heavy rain, conditions will be very testing so look for a horse that stays a bit further than this two and a half mile trip.
Imperial Alcazar will be one near the head of the betting and he was mightily impressive last time when dropping down to this trip which really suited. He is 8lbs higher here so this will be much tougher but holds every chance.
The old warrior Coole Cody wears his heart on his sleeve and will likely try and make every post a winning one. He has been dropped a couple of pounds in the handicap and is just 2lbs higher than when winning here at Cheltenham in December.
Of the bigger prices, the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Guy right at the bottom of the handicap could be interesting. He has some deep ground form on his resume and could outrun his odds of around 25/1.
Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (Registered As The Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle)
The Willie Mullins bandwagon certainly hit top gear here on Wednesday and he has the top three in the betting here with Dinoblue, Brandy Love and Grangee and runs seven in total so a Mullins win looks likely.
Brian Cooper who rode Grangee last time was adamant he would win before a late fall, and this one could well be the value bet of the Mullins trio and Patrick Mullins takes over the reins.
The best hope of a British trained winner here lies with Love Envoi who has done nothing wrong in four wins for Harry Fry, although she does have a penalty to carry.
Of the others, The Player Queen for Rose Dobbin showed a great attitude last time when winning her fourth from five starts, and at odds of 80/1 could sneak into a place.
Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase
Always a cracking race and the race for amateur jockeys over the Gold Cup distance. Always a race to focus on the top amateur jockeys like Jamie Codd, Derek O’Connor and Patrick Mullins.
All three have very good rides with O’Connor teaming up with the likely favourite School Boy Hours. Has some excellent form on heavy ground at this sort of trip and could be a winner for the legendary owner JP McManus in those famous green and gold colours. Mullins (two winners already) rides Mister Fogpatches for Pat Fahy and this one was an excellent 3rd of 18 in the Thyestes last time.
Codd rides for Gordon Elliot here and his mount Smoking Gun bounced back to form last time after a poor run in the Thyestes.
Looking at the other runners and Sam Whaley Cohen rides Mister Coffey for Nicky Henderson and he looks interesting stepping up in trip.
Conclusion
It really is another fascinating days racing with both Allaho and Flooring Porter looking to defend their crowns from last year. Make sure to check out all the latest offers here at Ontheballbets with many bookmakers offering plenty of promotions.
Day 4 – Gold Cup Day – Friday 18th March 2022
Although the final day of the meeting begins with three hurdle races, the Gold Cup is arguably the most prestigious contest of the four-day festival and the National Hunt season as a whole.
Last year’s winner Minella Indo is back to defend his crown and looks to be peaking at just the right time. He’ll have his work cut out to defeat stablemate A Plus Tard and we also have former dual winner Al Boum Photo and the progressive Galvin who may go off favourite.
History shows that often the favourite doesn’t always win the Gold Cup but four of the last five winners have returned at less than 10/1
JCB Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1)
A relatively small field for a Triumph Hurdle but what we lack in quantity is made up for in quality. The market is dominated by the Irish trained horses and Willie Mullins Vauban looks a worthy favourite after his Grade 1 triumph last time and he renews rivalry with The Pied Piper who beat him the first time out and then went on to win easily at Cheltenham.
Plenty in here with chances including the unbeaten Knight Salute and Gary Moore’s Porticello who was a 17 length winner last time.
McCoy Contractors County Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
Another big field handicap and we have to start with last Saturday’s Imperial Cup winner Suprise Package who travelled so well and stormed clear after the last to win by 9 lengths and he has to carry a 5lb penalty here. That may not be enough to stop him from doubling up and at around the 10/1 mark he looks great EW value if you are betting with a bookmaker going 7 or 8 places.
Plenty in with chances here and I Like To Move It will be a popular choice after an outstanding run in the Betfair Hurdle when beaten a short head by Glory and Fortune who franked the form with an excellent run in Tuesday’s Champion Hurdle.
Looking further down the card and trying to find one or two at bigger prices and the one who takes the eye is Tempo Chapter Two for Willie Mullins ridden by Thursday’s hero Danny Mullins. This one was a smart winner last time and sneaks in right at the bottom of the handicap and looks great value at around 25/1.
Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
The staying division for the novice hurdlers and Hillcrest could be another winner for team GB. Henry Dalys star unseated here in January when hampered but had won his previous four and made up for that blemish by winning easily last time and looks to hold a very strong chance.
Although we have a big field here, the quality is probably not as deep in this division.
However, at bigger prices, Archie Watson’s Stag Horn who won his last flat start off a mark of 103 over 2 miles 2 furlongs, and has won his two hurdle starts looks one that could go very well and at around 14/1 which is a very fair price.
Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (Grade 1)
It’s the highlight of the week with 11 going to post for the “Blue Riband” of jump racing…….The Gold Cup.
We have last year’s one and two Minella Indo and A Plus Tard from the Henry De Bromhead yard as well as dual Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo who is reported to be in fine form at home.
Gordon Elliot has the current favourite in Galvin and this strong stayer was a winner last time when beating A Plus Tard by a short head in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown in December.
It really is a fascinating race but it is difficult to erase the memory of A Plus Tard smashing the field in The Betfair Chase earlier in the season and it could be another chapter in the meteoric rise of Rachael Blackmore.
Enjoy what is sure to be a classic.
St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase
Next up is the race for the real amateurs and the Hunter Chase. Billaway is a very short-price favourite for Willie and Patrick Mullins but is this one quite as good as when finishing runner-up in the last two renewals. The horse is 10 years old now and has been beaten in this at 11/4 and 2/1 and looks like being a similar price on Friday.
He has already been defeated this season by another of today’s runners Winged Leader by 12 lengths. Yes, Billaway improved to win next time out, but surely there is no value for punters and Winged Leader looks to hold a great chance.
Many in here that will clearly be outclassed on their current ratings but two to look out for at bigger prices are Cousin Pascal, who won the Foxhunters at Aintree last year and the 9-year-old Dubai Quest who is unbeaten under rules and is around the 8/1 mark.
Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase (Registered As The Liberthine Mares’ Chase) (Grade 2)
Only 8 go to post including last year’s second Elimay who may go off favourite. However, Mount Ida who won last year’s Kim Muir and already has a decision over the Mullins mare this season looks sure to run well.
It is difficult to see past the top two in the market and the one for place money might be Scarlet And Dove who finished third behind the two principals’ two starts back.
Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race)
This year’s festival finishes off with the ultra-competitive Martin Pipe for conditional jockeys and one that is always targetted heavily by the Irish trainers and this year is no different.
Hollow Games from the Gordon Elliot yard looks to have been laid out for this and he warmed up for this with a very good third in a Grade 1 Novice at the Dublin Racing Festival. That run came off a provisional rating of 140 and the British handicapper has him in here off a mark of 143 which seems generous with more improvement to come.
A fascinating runner is the Willie Mullins trained Five O’Clock who has not run since finishing seventh in this race in 2020. That run came from a mark of 145 and he comes back off a mark of 141 which if retaining the ability is a very lenient handicap mark.
These two from Ireland look very solid but what about an outsider that could surprise?
Right down the bottom, we have the Ian Williams trained Party Business who was travelling really well in the Challow Hurdle when falling and the mark of 132 could really underestimate this progressive individual and 40/1 looks way too big.
Conclusion
Another fascinating day of racing and the Gold Cup could be an absolute classic. We could also see a star of the future in Hillcrest in the Albert Bartlett.
Check out all the latest offers here at Ontheballbets, with many bookmakers offering plenty of promotions for the final day of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival.
Cheltenham Is One Of The Biggest Horse Racing Festivals In The World
Although there are many big meetings at weekends and during the season within the national hunt calendar, it is the mid-March Cheltenham Festival which is regarded as the annual championships or Olympics of national hunt racing.
Until 2005, the Cheltenham fixture had traditionally been a three-day midweek meeting attracting thousands of spectators from Ireland. Then a fourth day was introduced for the Friday, with the Irish still arriving at the racecourse in huge numbers, with crowds on each day being close to 60,000.
With 2021 being run behind closed doors due to the pandemic, crowds will be returning for what is sure to be a massive party atmosphere.
The arrival of the festival often coincides with the first signs of Spring weather and the week looks set fair for decent weather and perfect ground conditions.
Trainers To Watch This Year When Using Your New Customer Offers
Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins are likely to be fighting it out for the top trainer accolade and it is always worth noting any Elliot runners in the big handicaps that ar ridden by Davy Russell. Other trainers to keep an eye on this year include Nicky Henderson, Dan Skelton and Paul Nolan.
Factors To Take Into Account When Betting On The Festival
Ground conditions – During mid-March, there is often a tendency for underfoot conditions to be much easier than during the depths of winter. ‘Good to Soft’ ground often prevails and this does not always suit horses campaigned with success in the mud (‘soft’) during the preceding months. Save your sign up offers and free bets to use on horses that are proven on good ground.
The famous Cheltenham hill – The final two furlongs of each race features a stiff uphill finish with horses racing successfully at less undulating circuits such as Newbury and Haydock not necessarily suited by the demands of the track. Horses that have won previously at Cheltenham should be highly noted.
As the old saying goes “Horses for courses”
The Bookies – There is so much competition among the bookmakers, even on the High Street, that it pays to watch the offers available. Money-back when the favourite wins is one to note especially with several odds-on favourites winning in recent seasons from the Willie Mullins yard. For anybody wishing to use Ladbrokes or William Hill in Cheltenham town centre, it is worth bearing in mind that these shops can become very busy during lunchtimes of festival week.
Which Are The Best Types of Offers to Take Advantage Of For Cheltenham Betting?
Cheltenham Betting Offers: First Race of the Day Refund On Losing Horses
If you’re planning on betting on more than one day at the Cheltenham festival, this offer is perfect as it gives you a refund if you fail to pick the winning horse. The free bet is given in 24 hours, usually sooner. Your refund can be used on any sport, so don’t worry if the Festival is over by the time you get your refund from Friday’s first race.
Cheltenham 2022 Non Runner No Bet
It makes sense to place your bets with a bookmaker that offers their customers the insurance of getting a refund for any horse that fails to start the race. Nobody wants to see a £100 bet going down the drain due to not getting a run. The majority of big bookmakers are offering this for 2022, but it’s always worth checking.
Price Match For The Festival
Odds on horses can fluctuate widely so depending on how much you stake on horse racing, getting better odds can make a big difference to your winnings.
